Species Information
Description
A small species of frog reaching up to 3 cm in body length. It has a light brown back, with olive-green or dark brown patches and often a thin, brown longitudinal stripe along the middle. There is sometimes a horizontal stripe behind the eyes. The belly is white, and the male has a grey throat. The pupil is horizontal, and the iris is gold in the upper half and silver in the lower half. Fingers are unwebbed and toes are slightly webbed, both without discs.
Habitats
Occurs in grassland in clay soil areas.
Breeding Biology
Eggs are unknown, but are likely to be similar to those of other Cyclorana species and laid under the surface of the water in temporary ponds and flooded ditches. Tadpoles can reach a total length of up to 5 cm, and are grey or gold, with large black specks. It is unknown how long they take to turn into frogs. Breeds during summer after heavy rain.
Similar Species
Looks similar to the many Cyclorana species in its distribution, but is generally smaller than all except Cyclorana cryptotis, which lacks a clear tympanum.
